This blog’s main author is Rev. Ian Thomas. He is minister of Mount Calvary Baptist, Swansea, wales, UK. http://mountcalvarybaptistswansea.com
Sounddoctrine.co.uk was formed in about 1999 though in its present form it has only existed since 2012.
This blog is about exploring theology, making it practical and where glory is directed to God and His Son Jesus Christ.
The aim is to speak to current events, to engage with Scripture, doctrine and the world. The blog will also contain sermons that have been preached whether in audio form or written.
There are various reasons for blogging in Ian’s words:
- As Pastor I have want my church to get a good grounding in Scripture. We have used Acts 2.42 (NKJV) ‘And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.’ as our motto. I believe that this should also be the motto of every Christian, so…
- I am aware that there are millions of Christians that do not have a solid foundation other than the faith they have found in Jesus Christ. It is time to build upon that foundation! This site hopes to be the catalyst for Christians to gain understanding and knowledge and wisdom.
- I am also concerned about the state of theology and doctrine in the UK and USA. I want to defend the faith and teach others to do so too. There are various Scriptures which seem relevant: 2 Timothy 4:3 (NKJV) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers.’ and Titus 2:1 (NKJV) ‘But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine.’
- I also want to address contemporary issues whether a TV Programme, news item, Website etc – this gives me the freedom to add whatever I want but with the proviso of it being a Christian response!!!
So, this is not quite the dumping ground of all my thoughts…not quite…
We hope you enjoy what you find!
A little about Ian…
I came to Christ through a friend, Jamie, who started attending a Christian Fellowship when we were at secondary school. Through his gentle persistence over several months and because I was bored one Sunday I attended and I was gripped by the evident love they had for God and each other. 3 months later I became a Christian in 1986. I was radically changed from a petty criminal who thieved from every store I went into to one whose desire was for God and His work. This has not ever changed.
When I was 18 (1988) I was baptized at Yapton Baptist Church on confession of my faith in Jesus. Many verses of Scripture were read that really formed the foundation for the direction of my life and ministry.
Today I have a hunger and thirst to preach and teach Scripture in a day when so much of what is called the Church have lost all sense of sound doctrine. Not that I am perfect for there but by the grace of God go I but what God has given I give to others as best as I can.
Happy Exploring! (Feedback most welcome on all articles)
